I am going to try and remove the screen at the end of the fuel pick up tube. How do you bleed the engine after you do this. I have an 84 HUnter 31 with a 2GMF Yanmar. Thanks, Richard

Maybe no screen

There may be no screen, there was none on my H34, 1984 However, after you break open the fuel system, all air needs to be purged from the system. If you are only removing the fuel pick up, then you can get away with bleeding the secondary filter, the one attached to the left front of the engine. To do this, loosten the screw on the top, and activate the lever on the fuel pump, when only fuel comes out, you are done. If you have not run the engine out of fuel. there should be no need to bleed the injectors. Good luck, John, sv 50-50

Fuel pickup

I have just gone threw your problem. I had bad fuel which clogged the filters. I replaced the filters with new ones which lasted all of one hour of engine time before they too were clogged. I tried to remove the pickup tube but couldn't get it loose from the tank without risk of breaking it off. I pumped out what i could threw the pickup tube which left me about an inch of fuel in the tank, [apparently the tube does not go to the bottom]. I then removed the filler hose at the tank and healed the boat to starboard, [the side of the filler hose] and pumped the tank dry with a pump by inserting the hose into that corner to get most everything out. Everything is working fine now. Surprisingly the pickup tube did not plug up when I pumped from it. It is possible that there is no screen on it. If it is plugged, you could blow it open. I didn't have to bleed the system of air, I just started the engine and left it run for 15 minutes to be sure it didn't get air in the injectir pump. I drain my primary filter twice a year for water and never have any trouble with air in the system. From now on I will always pump out my tank once a season to be on the safe side.
