fuel line hole in hull?

Has anyone ever cut a hole on the back hull for the fuel line to the outboard?
One of my minor irritations is that the fuel line comes out of the port settee hatch and is crimped if you sit on the hatch. That makes reaching and controlling the outboard difficult.
I've been thinking of just cutting a small one inch hole out of the stern, up high, to allow the fuel line to just go out the back directly to the outboard, allowing me to close and sit on the hatch.

Anyone ever tried something like this?

The previous owner on my 1973 had this setup and it has worked fine. The hole was big enough for the hose but not for the connector. He must have separated the two before installing. There is a rubber boot of some type on the outside that is cinched closed with a zip tie that appears to be a stock item and not some thing custom made. I do not have a photo and the boat is not nearby.

in my 21, I cut a large enough hole to insert a Hawse Pipe.... it worked great.

before you install the pipe, on the inner flange, drill two hole directly across from one another.... then insert a #10 bolt long enough to span across, with a nyloc nut on it. dont tighten it as it will distort the shape of the pipe, but only place the nut on the bolt enough that it is snug.... it is somewhat better if you put a small piece of poly pipe over the bolt as you insert it thru the holes, as this protects the line from any chafe on the bolt threads.

the fuel line will come run out thru the hawse pipe and to the motor... close the lid so insects or splash/rain cant get in....
then when you disconnect the fuel line, open the lid and put the fitting end in the pipe first, and around the bolt opposite the side where the line runs out of it... then it will never fall inside and will always be right there waiting for you when you want it again..... close the lid to keep the weather out...

I just have my fuel line coming out the cowl vent. Works fine. Not sure if your C22 is setup like my 1984 is though.

this is a photo of it installed... i dont have a close up of it, but it had a nice professional look to it...

the hole with the clamshell vent over it will work too, as that was how i started, but i wanted to be able to tuck the end away when it wasnt being used. the clam vent would allow for that and the hose didnt slide in and out of the hole as nice, so I used the hawse pipe fitting. it solved all my issues concerning the fuel line.

There's a water tight fitting available from I think Trident Marine that's made for passing propane hose out of the tank locker. It's black nylon with a squishy rubber gasket that squeezes in on the hose. It's water and gas right and looks good. The fittings made for passing wires through the deck would also work well.

That fitting looks great but it only goes through a bulkhead up to 1/2" thick.
