Fuel Line Air

Yesterday I cleaned out my Racor water separator filter and fuel line to get rid of diesel bug. I also pumped the tank dry.Later with clean fuel in the tank, and realising that the pipe from filter to lift pump and thence to the filter etc was still full of fuel, I decided to start the engine and wait until this fuel was used before bleeding the complete system. The engine started immediately and continued to run at 1200 rpm for 30 minutes without missing a beat.Whilst I know that modern diesels can swallow some air my question is where did a solid slug of air - at least 1/2 pint - go to please?

Fuel line air Yanmar 4JH series

The 4JH series engines have a self bleeding system, which you have just demonstrated. They don't always make it on their own after a filter change, but you made it. If you found contaminants in your fuel tank, be sure to work a little longer to correct the reason. You will usually find something that is letting water into the tank, most commonly the O ring on the fuel fill.

Buying the Bug

Thanks for the advice re air and the bug.Unfortunately I bought the bug and the water from a fuel barge and it took exactly four days to clog my filter.Same thing happened three years ago when purchasing fuel from another fuel barge so I am familiar with the procedure.Kind regards and thanks for a great forum.Don.
