I'm never sure how I'm doing on fuel use. Recently I was doing work near the 12 gallon fuel tank and noticed that there appears to be a fuel gage on top of the tank. However, since there are only a few inches between the top of the tank and the cockpit floor, the gage can not be read. Has anyone found this and solved?? Tony

A mirror perhaps?

You could maybe glue a little mirror at a 45 degree angle (or reasonably close) above the gauge to be able to see it. My fuel tank is in the starboard lazarette in the cockpit. It's just a simple matter of lifting the lazarette lid an looking down. Where's yours? Manny

1984 27' Hunter - Fuel gage

Manny, mirror option is not good, Tank in astern of bulkhead behind engine, under cockpit floor. I can't understand why gage was put here in the first place, since it can't be seen. Wonder if can be converted to electrical system, including installing a gage in cockpit. Tony

Replace it

My fuel tank in my 76 H27 sprung a leak and dumped a full tank into the bildge, while on the hard last winter. I though it could be flushed out & repaired. I couldn't believe the amount of crud in the bottom of the tank, and ended up replacing it with one from west marine, and added an electric fuel gage (its cheaper to buy the tank this way) It was easy to hook up - You could retofit yours but it sounds like something that you may want to only do once.

Never has worked

Our 82 has a gauge near the switch panel. It has not worked since we have had the boat (2000). We log engine time. Fuel consumption appears to be 5 hours per gallon. I calculate it as 4 hours per gallon to be safe. This works well for the day sailing and occasional overnight or one week trips. Andy "Baroque"
