I was told by Hunter that my 28.5 had a sighted fuel gauge. I was in the cockpit locker and saw what looked like a place for the fuel gauge but there was nothing ther to read. It was a blocked like plate with screws around it and a round part in the middle but that is all, nothing to tell me how much fuel I have. So where do I go from here?? Cliff

What is your tank made of?
Cliff: If you tank is made of poly, you can use an Accugauge on it. If it is metal then you can use a regular type gauge.

I suggest that you contact them and hold them accountable. Assuming that you bought the boat recently from them. That way, you are not putting out more of your own money for something that is owed to you.

If you have the original tank, fibreglass built-in that is actually the floor of the locker, it sounds like somebody replaced the guage with a flat plate. The original guage was impossible to read unless you emptied the locker and was pretty inaccurate. Simple float guage which can probably be purchassed from West Marine etc.

If you read the small print on the brochures (all mfg) the specifications are subject to change. They have no legal responsibility to provide any specific features from one boat to the next. This boat is over 10 years old, I am suprised that even remembered that they made it<g>.

The original was in the floor of the lazarette. Sounds like a previous owner has removed it. The tank is built so you can't use an Accu-Guage. But a simple float type replacement should work. Of course, it will still be difficult to read, but at least you will have a guage.

New fuel guage
I am planning on adding a Teleflex unit and guage on my 33.5. Total cost will be around $55-60 for the guage and float/sensor. I'm getting tired of standing on my head to read the guage in the lazarette! I will also be adding an oil pressure and water temp. guage at the same time($35-45 for each of these). These will be mounted on a 1/8" black ABS panel cut to match the dimensions of the B-Type panel on the boat, and mounted above it. Thanks to Roy Mosteller for his help and example of a great installation on his 30T. Hope this helps.
