Has anyone put a Raycore Fuel Filter on a 29.5? Cannot find a good place for it.

Boat came with one

Our 29.5 came with one mounted under the aft berth next to and just forward of the sea water thru hull valve. It's fairly accessible in that location

My boat ('95 29.5) also came with a Racor 110

It's located well aft of the raw water through hull almost to the bulkhead. By the way, even though the 110 is listed as a gas filter, according to Gordon Torresen it is both a diesel and gas filter.

Replacing fuel filter

Pre. articles are correct on placement and compatibility of filters. BTW, if you remove the center panel aft of the berth, the fuel tank is there. It has a fuel shut-off which will come in handy when replacing or installing filters. Next year, I may install a hatch there so I can reach the shut-off without removeing the whole panel (12 screws and a hassle) Also-replacement filters are available from Boat/US, West Marine, and maybe your local Freightliner dealer!

shutoffs and redundant filters

If you cut the fuel line ahead of the filter, install a tee and then a shutoff in each branch you can then install a second racor filter opposite the one installed at the factory. This will give you a completely redundant (spare) fuel filtering system and allow you to switch from a dirty one to a clean one with a flick of the shutoffs. You can then clean and/or change the dirty filter at your leisure - even underway. While you're at it, install a primer bulb ahead of the tee and you will have a really deluxe system that will save lots of headaches if you goof and lose your prime. I did my 29.5 this way and it really works great. Bill Murray Good Faith
