I would like to be able to fill a 6 gallon fuel tank from outside my 26S. The portable tank is kept in the lazerette. With all the other stuff packed in there its a pain to unpack, unplug the engine fuel supply line, fill and then repack it all. Ideally, I would like to find a kit that would provide a vented cap mounted on the coaming and with a flexible hose and screw on connector to my Honda tank. The screw-on connector would replace the existing cap with float gague and vent screw combo. It might have to go to a permanent tank, but I'd like to avoid that expense if possible.

USCG legal tanks

First what you want to do, it modify an portable tank into a permenant tank. probably not USCG approved. that being said, I have TWO 6 gallon portable tanks at the bottom of my laz. I have 1 fuel supply line to the motor and switch when needed. what I do, is use a 8' long clear plastic hose that fits over my 5 gallon jug, and pour fuel from the cockpit into the tanks in the laz. (3/4" ID hose?) then flush the hose with fresh water to try an preserve the hose. -yes I do get some minor fumes in the cabin... even after 'foaming' the sides of the laz to seal up the laz. (I also have 2 passive vents to the laz). I do think someone has done what you want to do, (search archives), and enclosed the filler cap vent to the topside so the fumes dont settle in the laz. (think it was a non typial tank, with the vent NOT in the cap) -the correct way to go is just buy a permanent tank and add vent and fill caps. (but you'll need to also mount the tank to something...) luck!

What I Did

Mine is similar to mrbill's, but I do remove the tank to fill. I removed the vent screw-in fitting in the fuel tank cap and replaced it with a 1/4" pipe nipple. I then attached fuel line to the nipple and through a quick release fitting to an outside marine fuel vent. Passive vents in the lazarette and all but still get some fuel smell in the cabin. Haven't sealed it yet with the spray foam insulation but planning to give that a try. Also a blower, they're cheap. I am wondering if the above deck plastic tanks that we're talking about inherently allow some fuel vapor to pass through.

Spray Foam - if I did it again....

I used the 'great stuff' max expanding foam. and boxed the area with masking tape. had I to do it over, I'd put a garbage bag in place and shoot the foam in the bag.. and after 10 min, try to form the foam, as its setting up. that way I'd get a pseduo closed cel foam by using the plastic bag as a outside skin... fwiw, I end up lifting the lid on the laz 4" at night, and that gets rid of all fumes...
