I just took delivery on a 1996 Oceanis 400 and noticed I didn't have the specific winch handle to take the fuel cap off. Is there a substitute or do I need to get the one from Beneteau (part number 15975)?
I got a new cap for the fuel, one water tank and the pumpout... I got tired of the various winch handles and carrying them around specially the diesel since its in the back, one less thing to drop back there. I got mine from ebay and they all have the same threads and size, measure first pay once I heard some people are siphoning gas/diesel from cars and perhaps this would deter a thief but none of these are locking caps anyways...Gaute
concerning the winch type caps.... Thats one of the few parts that set us apart from the rest, and I love it.. what I've done is used a "winch bit" that can be ordered on line... Visit your locan welder and have a "T" handle welded to the bit, handle about 4 inches wide.. I've stiched a leather piece over the handle and attached a a lanyard to it to to go around my neck when in use...
hey Randy, I fail to see how its an improvement to have a cap on water/diesel that needs a tool. I have one style cap for the diesel and another for water and use still have the winch style for waste, this way I can seperate them and think before I do something dumb.Perhaps I'm not seeing why the bit is needed for a cap on diesel but theft seem to be the only I can come up with and for thats its 5 seconds more with a bit.Gaute
Hey Gaute, For myself it is an improvement but the origional post asked about getting a tool and that what the reply was about.. As for the tool instead of using a winch handle.. when using the handle on my particular boat on the fuel fill, the angle of the area around the fuel fill is such that the end of the handle hits the boat causing a mar in the gelcoat..
