my fuel gage is not working on my 1982 h27. i would like use a dip stick. Has any one been able to devise a way to do this? I have tryed a wire but cann't seem to get it around the 90 degree bend at the tank.
I am having the same problem with my 30'-'77 Hunter. The gauge is unreadable under the cockpit floor and the fill hose has too many turns to snake a line in. I am thinking of remounting the Diesel filler cap in the floor of the cockpit.A straight shot to the tank. Then I can take a direct reading with a stick at any time. I am a little worried about water entering the fill hole. I guess it shouldn't be a problem since the cap seals real well in the original position.
Just calculate your usage. I know that I use about 1/2 gal per hour of running time on my boat. After "x" hours I know I have used approx "x" gals of fuel. When I calc that I'm about 1/2 way down, I refill. Works every time, +/- a gallon of fuel.
Remove the aft panel below deck so you can easily see the level. My tank is so opaque that I have to use a flashlight, but it works as well on the holding tank.
