I have an '82 H33 with a 3GM30F which runs good. I have receently added a new hour meter, and am interested in knowing whether anyone with a 3 banger has calculated "about" how many gals per hour (or hours per gal)they are burning. I have a 17 gal tank, but no convenient fuel gauge. Thanks,

This is a ballpark figure. Since I can only calculate it during a fill up, which happens about twice a year. I use to run it at 3000 and have came down to around 2500-2800. I get about 1/2 gal per hour at around 2500 RPM, and 3/4 gal per hour at around 3000 rpm.

Me too

It's been a while since I checked but that is the same averages I saw: about .5 gals per hour at mid-range, and about .7 or .8 gas/hr at higher speed. In smooth water the difference in speed was about 5 to 5 1/2 knots versus around 7. (city versus highway?) I have a 37 cutter, 18,000 pounds, so you should do better. The other issue to be aware of is the actual tank capacity, which is almost never as advertised (50?). I've seen estimates range from 37 to 45. Mine appears to be close to 45. The only way to make sure of course is to run your own test in smooth water, and extrapolate. S.

1980 37 running 2300 burns 1/2 gal an hour.just remember the tank shape. a simple float gauge does not take into acount the fact that it tapers down.the top of the tank is much bigger than the bottom.
