Fuel consumption on 37.5

Anyone have a good rule of thumb on fuel comsumption for the 37.5/34 hp Yanmar. I'm sure it's low, but I'm planning a long trip to relocate the boat and need to do some planning. (Boat is new to me, hence the question.) Thanks.

Not to worry

On my 37.5 with a 3HM35F at 2000 rpm's we burn 1/2 a gal an hour. I assume your trip is in the Bay if so plan your trip with the tide and your speed over ground at that rpm could run up to 7 knots. Have fun Lee

fuel consumption

fuel consumption is directly related to rpm's so assuming you are are cruise rpm's you should use 1/2 to 3/4 gallon per hour. However remember that currents and wind will affect fuel use both positive and negative so you will do a little better or a little worse. I would try and plan stops so that you have at least 1/3 of a tank when you fuel. I would also suggest that you carry some replacement fuel filters in case you get a bad load of fuel. Good Luck on your trip!

On Prospect...

...we get .6GPH at 2500 RPM, .75GPH at 2800 RPM and 1GPH at 3000 RPM. Yanmars like to be run fast. I've got a 3-blade fixed prop. Fuel consumption (unlike speed) won't be affected by wind or tide or a dirty bottom only by RPMs and growth on the prop. Hope this helps Jim "Prospect"

Actual fuel consumption

In 62 hours I burned 45 gallons, covering 329 GPS miles, 368 knot-log miles. My claim is the difference was due to all of the "hills" I had to go up and down. Most of the time the engine was at 2600 rpm. This was with a 380 but it should still give you a pretty good idea of fuel consumption on a similar boat.

24 Hours

Since the boat is new to you, be safe. When planning your trip, refuel points should be planned for a maximum of 24 hour operating intervals and travel at an average five knots speed over ground with the 37.5. That should allow enough leeway for just about all operating conditions that you might encounter with about 4 to 6 hours operating reserve. Just be aware that the lower fuel level in the tank will increase the likelihood that sludge and stuff from the bottom of the tank may be stirred up more than usual. If you can, get the fuel tank cleaned before departure and install new fuel filters. Change the oil and oil filter, too. It is preventative maintenance you will not regret.

Fuel Consumption

Have motored to Southern Florida from Maryland via the ICW. My Yanmar settles in nicely at 2700 RPM with a two-blade fixed prop. Fuel consumption was a steady 0.7 GPH.

my experience

I've tracked my fuel consumption for 4 years and 500 hours. Normal cruising rpm's are 2600 -2800 and I average .7gph. I have a folding prop and can cruise at 7 knots on flat water
