Can someone tell me the fuel capacity of the standard deisel fuel tank in the boat I own which is a Beneteau 32s5 launched in 1989. The metal tag attached to the top of the tank is unreadable. I have only owned the boat for 1 year and don't want to allow the level to get to empty, for the obvious reasons. I have read all the specs that came with the boat but nothing on the fuel capacity.

Have you checked Bene's

web site? I can tell you that Beneteau's are known for not having enough fuel capacity. My '94 OC400 has only 40 USG. Bene's are designed for bareboat charter work, not blue-water cruising and they sacrifice fuel capacity for fresh water, to allow plenty of showers.

If you have access to the tank and can measure the dimensions, measure in inches and multiply the height times width times depth and divide by 231 and you will get a pretty close estimate of the capacity in gallons. For example a tank 12"x12"x12" contains 1728 cubic inches. A gallon contains 231 cubic inches so the tank holds 7.48 gallons. Obviously if you want more accuracy, you have to subtract the wall thickness of the tank material from your measurements but that's probably overkill. Bill

Log onto www.yachtworld.com and do a search for Beneteau 32S5. Under the spec page you'll find most info for the boat. You may have to check a few before you find what you're looking for as not every broker lists all the data.
