I can not believe the Farr office gave such a small tank to the 47.7, In my view the small capicity firmly puts the boat out of the ocean cruiser bracket as there is barily enough fuel to run down the refrigeration and keep the battery bank up, on a long Ocean haul I do not own one but am seriously in the market, my question is, if a vertical tank where built in the salon, starting from the floors coming up through the sole boards and through the headliner and affixed under the deck and the whole nicely sheethed in teak or whatever, (round tank in section) 600 diameter would give 565 litres extra, would this arrangemnt be livable? the angle of vanishing stability would not change so much Or are there other places a tank could be built into? All the big beneteau are like this, weird I am a yachtbuilder, the last 54 footer I designed and built had a fuel cap of 2000 litres, crossing the Tasman on her maiden voyage we ran into a full gale heads wind, we motored slowly into seas that dropped off 25 feet and then flat calm, so the 1700 miles had to be done under power, I was thankful for the fuel capicity Anyone done anything about their tankage, or have any helpful comment , I'd be grateful Thanks

I think they are worried about the extra weight.

Jack-- I’m with you more tankage of all types is a good thing on a blue water boat, but I think the designers wanted to keep the boat as light as they could. If you look at the specs of all the First Series Beneteau boats I think light weight is one of the central themes. We have the same problem here when sailing back from Mexico. It is ususally right on the nose for days at a time (we call it the Baja Bash) and many times, as much as I hate to say it, there is more motor than sail for long periods of time. It looks as if you will just have to secure “cans-on-the-deck” just like the rest of us. However the 47.7 is one beautiful sailing boat, very fast and a joy to look at as well. One of my favorites. However it looks alot better without the "cans-on-the-deck"! --Dan
