fuel can that fits

I have a 1986 Catalina 22 the fuel compartment is obviously for a 5 gal can but I have a 3.5 HP that doesn't have an external tank.

Right now I'm using 2 1gal cans but want to go with 2 gal cans or something close that fits.

Stupid question but has anyone found a good size and type that fits?

My god I went can shopping and these fricking new cans that have the safety spout crap sucks.

Anyway any ideas let me know.

We have a MK-II, and I believe our fuel locker is very similar to your 2nd gen C-22. I wanted a larger tank also to feed my 5 HP Honda, and although the stock 3 gallon tank worked fine, I just wanted more capacity. The 6 gallon Tempo tanks didn't work. I found an OMC Dura-Tank was the solution. It holds 6 gallons, and fit's the fuel locker perfect, with room to spare. I just installed the Honda tank fitting and it was good to go.

Howie came up with this solution for an outboard like yours with an internal tank. This has worked well for my friends using their 2 HP Honda's, and other small outboards with an internal tank when we motor for 6-7 hours crossing over to Catalina Island.

The attached photo is identical to our fuel tank.

Curious, why not just use two three gallon tanks?

2- 3 gallons fuel tanks,(at least the tank's I have, Honda OEM and Tempo), won't fit in the fuel locker.

Thought about something like that and now after reading that someone did it I think I will as well. Getting tiard of hanging off the back of the boat.

Gotcha, Nissan (Tohatsu) style tanks fit. Tight fit but work.

Yes, I have two of those in my '86 fuel locker and they fit fine. Even with a 9.9 engine I could motor all weekend with the fuel in those two tanks.
