I am in the process of buying a 410 with a 56hp Yanmar engine. I will have to transit approximately 300 miles to get it to my home marina, a combination of open ocean sailing and motoring through portions of Delaware Bay and the C&D Canal. The fuel tank is 50 gal. What kind of range should I expect from a full tank? I will likely be hiring a delivery captain to run the voyage and I will accompany as crew (I have minimal open ocean sailing experience- my background is J/24's and powered vessels of many hundreds of feet in length- and would rather trust it to someone experienced). Any other voyage planning advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help and advice.

The captain should explain everything to know on a trip like yours.extra engine parts, belts and filters and all safety equipment.
I sailed from NY to Florida first time offshore for me in 2008 and my Captain friend sat down with me and we made a list of everything I should have on board, most important for offshore,we did offshore from NY to Ft Pierce in 9 days and only 2 days inside.
I did the trip from Ft Pierce to Punta Gorda and I did learn a lot on the trip from NY,plan your trip each day and where to anchor and figure your estimated speed and mileage each day and where to anchor,it's not that hard.
What year boat and what condition and what GPS do you Have.

On my 44DS, which I think has the same engine, Yanmar 4JH3E, I get 1.25 g/h at cruising speed (3200 RPM).

Thanks for the info so far. Boat is a 2002, with a Raymarine SL70CRC. I also carry back-ups/handhelds for all key nav/safety gear in my emergency bag (lifetime powerboater). Condition on my walk-through appeared to be pretty decent (engine and bilge were exceptional), but it won't survey/sea trial until next week. I'm taking a cautious wait-and-see approach to the survey before I commit to the open ocean transit.

1-1.5gph is music to my ears.....I've been eating 30+gph lately. It hurts at the fuel dock.
