I went out this weekend to clean up the boat. We decided to go out for the day (78 degrees, 10 MPH W winds). It seems that my throttle is frozen. What are all the different places I should look into for this issue? I have wheel steering with the edison pedestal / controls. I am thinking I need to look at the control arm itself and lubricate it, inside the pedestal I probably need to check the tensioning screw, and then I assume I should also look on the engine (9.9 bigfoot) side. Is there anything else that I am overlooking?

Disconnect it from the engine first.

This will determin if it's the cable or the controls. Lubricate everything and drip oil down the cable if you can. This usually solves the problem

Check that there is not a

rusty clamp on the engine end of the cable for tensioning it. If there is one, you might be able to grind it off, shorten the cable and reattach it properly. Then fix the tensioning problem properly - at the pedestal.

I just got done

replacing the throttle-shifter cable on my 260 with Edison pedestal. The cost was around $60.00 per cable (I got the red cable) It was a no brainer, took about 4 hours. I've been told you can undo it without taking the pedestal down but I chose to take mine down. It was a peace of cake. Had to replace one of the four big bolts that hold down the pedestal, ordered it from Edison. John USNret

Stiff Throttle

Hey Darren, my throttle cable was bent at the motor end from trying to raise the motor straight instead of turned sideways. I have a merc 9.9 and the cables stick out just far enough to hit the step if raised straight, Just a thought
