Hey all! I have a quantity of Interlux Micron CSC (not much)that sat in the garage all winter. The space is not heated and the CT tempurature dipped below freezing over the winter. Is the paint dead? Has anyone had any experience with frozen bottom paint? Thanks much! Richard H23 "Invictus"

House Paint...

Hi Richard, I used to paint houses in the summer. I've had more than one can of paint freeze over the years. In my experience, if the paint is water based it is screwed. If the solvent for Micron CSC is petroleum based you might be in luck. I've seen oil based paints totally seperate and remix nicely. Good luck. Steve

I think you will be OK

That Micron CSC is oil (I think toluene or the like) based which gives it a much lower freezing point than water based. I would take it to the hardware store and ask them to shake with their machine. If it looks OK after that, it probably is. I happen to have a can sitting here and don't see the freeze precautions you see on latex paint. My bet is that you are OK.

Move over let godfather speak

Micaron CSC. Damn good paint. I use it often and yes it has frozen in the shop over the winter. Take it inside for 24 hours to warm up and then go to a paint shaker at a hardware store and shake that sucker up. It will work. Tried and true for many years. Uh Oh, I am showing my age and some more. Any more questions ask for Crazy Dave. Yes I am a looney bin case but in reality, I probably have done it. You know, I see alot of things in the marine industry which some items are new but this is a new question here I believe.
