Froward Head Passage 42

I am in the process of changing out the forward head from a salt water to fresh water. We have not used the head that much as we us the aft head. The one problem the forward head was that it always was hard to flush. It looks like the head is lower than the holding tank. Anyone else have the same problem or any ideas for a fix. It seems to leave about 3 inches of water in the bowl.

not sure what year your 42 is, but my 1991 had the holding tank several inches below the base of the forward head. Both heads kept at least and inch or two in them, almost all the time.

My holding tank was beneath the mid ships air handler (under the starboard settee) and a chore to get to.

Best of luck.

The forward holding tank on my 410 is higher up than the head. You have to pump it a lot to flush the line as the line holds 1 gallon. But you should be able to empty the bowl, if not time to replace the joker valve.

on the H42- waste tank is under floor so definitely lower than head- i simply picked up fresh from the water line under wash basin via a "T" fitting and one of those SS flexible hoes from the hardware store

Found Problem

I removed the floor this weekend and found my problem. The hose was clogged where it went into the holding tank. No more problems with it draining.

My new problem is that now my batteries don't seem to hold a charge. That is next weekend challenge.

Glad you found the problem. Had a similar situation a few years ago when I took my son and his family out for a week-long cruise. Their then ten year old daughter tried to flush a wet wipe down the forward head. The macerator pump did not like it.

The macerator did eventually chew it up and send it to the waste tank. After that it was TP only.

Regarding your batteries, what do you have (8D wets?) and how old are they? What are your symptoms other than than not holding a charge? Brand?
