Hi All I have a leak on my Oday 240 front hatch. I took the hatch out the other day and the rubber seal was bad in two places. What would be the best way to reseal it? I was thinking Marine silicone or that putty stuff that is used on camper windows. Any ideas will help. Thanks Dave

Forward Hatch
Dave, I would use a good Polysulfide boat caulking. I don't have a rubber seal on my forward hatch on my 222 and I'm talking about the hatch frame with the cover which is held on to the deck with bolts and cap nuts. I did have a leak, and what I did was use 3-M Marine adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV. I wouldn't use 5200 or 4200 because you may need to remove that hatch again some day and wind up breaking it in the process. Joe

Hi Dave, I have a oday 240. I reglazed my hatch last year with marine silicone, and between the hatch and deck I used weather stripping from a home improvment store.Weather stripping is super easy to install.If it leaks in the future no big deal to replace. I am happy to say after a year it has not leaked a drop and the nice thing about the 240 is there is no core material around the hardware to get wet if it does leak.

Dave, Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine may have that gasket. He was having the 240s built for him in Bristol RI back in the mid 1990s. He had bought the 240 mold when O'Day went out of business. Whether he used the same hatches or some other brand, I don't know. Joe

Hi Woody Did you take off the old sealing material and put on the putty stuff that is used on camper windows or the foam with the sticky back Dave

Hi Dave, I used foam with the adheasive on one side. I put the adheasive side on the deck.
