Has anyone done a recent front hatch replacement? Is that a brand that will fit with little deck mod. I am short on time and my daughter broke the dogs climbing thru and I have a leak problem so I would be willing to spend more $$$$ .

Trapizoid shape?

Lee: Try Bomar, they should have the original replacment for you. Some owners have used a square one over the opening too.

Here's an idea

Depending on where the leak is located maybe here's an idea. I had the problem myself and couldn'nt find a simular hatch overhere. I was forced to do it myself. Surprisingly it came out looking very good I removed the old glass by sawing, leaving an edge of half an inch. After that I replaced new glass (lexan) on top of the edge, wich was ofcourse a few millimeters more thick than the old one. This was manually sawed in order to get the right measurements using an paper overlay. After that I put a polyurithane kit on top of the edge to get it all waterproof. There is no more (rain)water left on top. And in fact, it looks brand new and is now save to stand on. Total costs around $20.00 For more info you can email anytime. Greetings Oliver van Mierlo

Pompanette

I recently replaced mine with the Bomar hatch from Pompanette. The number is 2092. There are a number of well documented discussions in the archives, and an excellent photo essay at our model page. David Lady Lillie

Bomar with modifications

Lee Can you just replace the dogs and/or the lexan portion? I know they sell those separately. If not, read on.... My co-owner and I just did that job about 3 months ago. We used the Bomar aluminum hatch (bought it from SailNet). But on our boat, both the front and rear hatches required cutting out (enlarging) of the existing hole. Our 27 is a 1982 and maybe each year differs a bit in those hatch sizes, but I'm not sure. Not a huge amount of cutting, about 1/2 inch most of the way around. I recommend the use of a jig saw, don't try to just grind it out (experience talking here). Anyhow, just be prepared to do a two-day replacement: day one for removing the old one, cutting the new size out, patching/sealing up the cut-out edges with Marine-Tex or epoxy; then day two for installing the new hatch. Feel free to email me if I can answer any other questions. It's all very clear in my mind still! Ron Vanderveer Melbourne, FL rvanderveer@bellsouth.net
