does anyone have comments re 30' Albin sailboat?? I have decided to sell my 1995 Mcgregor 26X and a 1962 O'day days sailor that is in the carport under refit--will be as good as new when done(new sails also) and then I will go to a serious ocean boat avec fixed keel and real toilet. jorgen[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I have sailed a 30ft Albin Ballad for the last 7 years. It is a very rugged
boat that has never left me feeling scared or nervous despite some serious
conditions. I have purposely taken it out several times during small craft
warnings (40+ Knot winds) and been able to handle the conditions quite
nicely. It does lack the living space of some of the newer boats but I
rather be safe than comfortable....

The keel stepped mast is very large and the standing rigging is probably one
notch heaver when compared to boats of similar size. It is not the fastest
boat in the fleet but it will hold it's own. I have replaced the main sheet
traveler with a newer heaver unit and had some issues with the outhaul on
the boom. However most of the original gear has held up well. My boat is
equipped with a MD7A diesel which I am in the process of rebuilding but has
been extremely reliable. I replaced the packless seal a couple of years ago
with a stuffing box but have had no other real issues.

All in all it is a great boat especially for a novice sailor like me. I am
sure that I have at times overstress it due to ignorance and it has taken
care of me quite well. I have considered selling several times to alleviate
the interior space issues for my family but other than that I highly
recommend it.
