Phil, I have looked at my existing Frigaboat system and it looks like your existing Coolmatic 86 with the with an evaperator "big enough" for a can of sardines. I have two separate lids and stainless bins. Each 16" wide 24" deep to sole, and 23" long to outside of hull. With the hull shape they are not a perfect rectangle but have just under 6 cu ft per bin. the bins are separated by an uninsulated stainless divider. I'd like foood and freezer stuff on the on side and cold beer on the other. Any ideas on one system.........what if I used two systems?

jeff, It sounds as though yours is a Beneteau built in France. Typically, these have the european version conversion kit, which works great in that climate, but when brought to the states, they may lack in freezer space. It is possible to put a larger evap in the freezer and "spillover" to the fridge. This will result in a very efficient (and larger) freezer and fridge setup. For more info go to www.frigoboat.com

Proper refrigerator/freezer

The two boxes have a volume which is to large for one condensing unit to provide you with refrigerator and freezing temperatures effectively. The divider needs to have two inches of insulation to provide temperature separation between the refrigerator and freezer compartments. If you have less insulation than this what will happen is the temperature of the freezer will either be too warm and the refrigerator just right or the freezer will be just right and the refrigrerator too cold. I would recommend adding additional insulation to the partition and putting in two separate cooling units, one for the refrigerator and one for the freezer. This way you can have a true freezer without having to worry about freezing everything at the bottom of the refrigerator. I would recommend the 80 series condensing units for the refrigerator and then a Adler/Barbour CU-100 for the freezer.
