I have a 78 Hunter 25 and I'm in the process of getting it ready for weekends on the lake. I'm going to be replacing the old batteries that it has but I'm trying to figure out the draw on the fridge but I can't seem to find any info on it. Does anyone have any idea or a direction to point me? Thanks in advance

Usually there is a sticker on the compressor that will give you either amps or watts ...

If it gives you watts just divide by 12V to get amps

Typically the fridge will use about 30 to 60 amp hours in 24 hours. You are going to want at least a 150 ah battery bank to handle the fridge and a few lights. If you load the fridge with 2 cases of hot Shiner Bock beers, then all bets are off.

Everything stated above is correct. Most boat fridges run about 50% of the time. So when using the compressor label to calculate Amp Hours understand that the fridge will normally run only half the time or about 12 hours per day. The beer comment above is, sadly, also true. If you put even 12 warm beers in your fridge, the fridge will probably run for 24 hours non stop before the beer is cold and the fridge goes back to running half the time. Then consider that you should only use half of the batteries Amp Hours before recharging. Therefore, let's assume 50 AH used per 24 hours without the warm beer shock or 100AH with the warm beer shock. Then double the resulting number for battery size calculation (for each 24 hours). Or, you could get a Yeti cooler for your beer.

i have a Hunter 380 and had the issue of the fridge drawing down my one battery too. i went online and searched for a amp usage list which was helpful. i add a 365 watt solar panel which really helps but when out i add a 5 lb. bag of ice in the fridge and cut it off unless motoring. The ice will keep 3-4 days and everything stays cold nicely. i am now going to frozen plastic contains with filtered water and they keep 3-5 days plus a fresh water back up. Good luck! Bill

RoyS gives some sound guidelines and Good advice from Bill and Lisa. I also use frozen water bottles as my ice (and drinking water).... I also pre-freeze my bratwurst and any other items that freeze well. My cooler will last four days if I pre-freeze and it is just an ordinary cooler.

Enjoy sailing.

The girls (cows) do get loose next door to come to Crazy Dave’s clover field restaurant to order yum yum clover which is a delicious!!! They are following current guidelines as to less than 10 and maintaining 6 feet or more distance. The restaurant is now closed per stay at home orders
