The fridge drain broke on my 06 - 423 as a result my drain line has dropped into space under the fridge and no clear access. As anyone had to do a fix on this type of drain?

Captn TJ -

Funny you bring this up, I am on the tail end of this project for a 97 oceanis 351. The main issues we have had are the hose for the drain (below the actual fridge) does not have much slack making it hard to keep track of, some mild mold there, . Additionally, it has been somewhat tough to find the right thru hull size locally so having to order online. I measured the actual hole at 1 1/4". I think we will use a 1 1/8" with a rubber seal on each side.

How did you get access to the area under the fridge? In order to replace the fitting I'll need to get under the fridge drain hole. Also what is your source for the fitting - west marine, Beneteau, etc?

Not sure if we are all talking the same issue here with JR or not and I admit I may be confused.

On my 2002 Bene 331 the ice box hose drain on the port side runs over to the a 2 way valve that is below the sink in the head to starboard.

That valve then goes into a pump that pumps the melted ice overboard out of a seacock.

ALSO the floor of the shower head goes to this same two way valve and in the other position is the sump for the shower. If we swing the valve in the other position we the drain the shower in the head.

The fridge does not go directly into the sea, not sure how it could.

Anyway if I read this right the problem is with the fitting in the bottom of the ice box. It sheared off and is laying on the bottom below the drain. I bought a new fitting from Beneteau and it is a design flaw in my opinion as the is a necked down area that is close to paper thin as molded. It appears to be nylon. I am sure many will shear off especially with the cold.

I found a solution and the way to get to the ice box bottom is actually in the sail locker of my boat. There is a hidden panel that comes off and I could actually crawl in there and I am a big guy and my boats a smaller 331. Yours may be different.

For what it is worth, there is no easy way to bust apart the beautiful woodworking and put it all back.

I have seen some people cut an access hole in the front cabinet along the floor rather neatly and then cover with a stainless steel vent plate that hides the hole.

IF this sounds on track I can add details on how I fix it but like I said I may be confused and apologize.

My fridge hose goes to a dedicated pump then overboard. Haven't thought about access from the back that may work. If all else fails then as you suggested drilling out a hole in front and ultimately covering it with a vent type plate.

Thx

Sounds like the same problem. For what it's worth the picture I saw was a vent/grill maybe 3" x 14" rectangle. This looked neat and gave better access from what I could tell. I will look for the photo. It was an online boat for sail.

I did fix it but did a pretty unconventional fix. If you can get access to the hose in back I can explain. Let me know...
Good luck.

Guys -

Yea I think they are slightly different setups. In my 97 Oceanis 351 the fridge drain comes out right on top of the port side water tank. The drainage tube then goes towards the companionway stairs and down.

Getting into that spot was almost impossible. Literally. I called Beneteau and they said there was no easy way. On ours there was a small hole about big enough for a couple fingers but not big enough to work through. We ended up buying a small saw and opening it just big enough to get into the space and do the work.

That hole by the way is below the sink behind where the trash can is stored on the door (when it is shut). If that makes any sense.
