A tip for those who may be interested: Buy an "emergency blanket" from the camping section at Meijer's, Wal-Mart, Dunham's Sports, etc. - it's a very thin silvery mylar sheet, sometimes called a "space blanket". They're around $2 - $3. Fold it repeatedly until the size is the same as your fridge. Tape the edges with duct tape. Lay it on top of the food in the fridge. This little blanket makes a tremendous difference in how cold your food will stay. We had to turn the thermostat down a notch after we started using this as it started freezing the beverages and exploding the aluminum cans.

HERE'S ANOTHER "BLANKET" IDEA

Mark, et. al.: Great idea. I used to use a blanket (actually an old towel) inside the icebox but stopped when I installed refrigeration last year on our '85 H31. I'll buy one today. One thing we've done for a while is to use (another K-Mart special!) thick foam placemat (about 1/4") cut just slightly larger than the box lid and laid on top. I also helps keep the cold in and doesn't slide around in heavy seas. I bet with both "blankets" on the job we could just about turn the darn systems off most of the time!!! Again, great idea. Tim L. (S/V "TIDE") one hand wrapped around a cold adult beverage on the Ches Bay.

Sit on cushion (life jacket)

I use a sit on cushion life jacket on top of my ice box lid for the same purpose. It makes a big difference on my Hunter 31. Eric Steege Perfect Union, 1984 Hunter 31 Bayport, MN
