Friction on CDI Furler

I have what I think is an original CDI furler on my Hunter 37, Cheribini. It is hard to turn. I've taken it apart and greased it but, still, it's pretty hard to turn. I'm wondering if there is a ball bearing model that I could replace it with easily, maybe without changing the foil.

Dan, the CDI is definitely past its 'best before date'... When I replaced mine in 2015, I purchased a Harken ESP1 cruising furler (the cruising model with the round foil section) and the 'long leg kit' to get the drum clear of the pulpit. Done and done. The foils have the same track size, so your existing sail should be OK.

I'm following your suggestion Jim!
incidentally, I disconnected the foil from the drum and found the foil was bent from the rigor putting them at dropping the mast rigging and that caused way more friction the han the drum had.

Seems like you should be able to straighten the foil enough to mostly eliminate that source of friction.
