Can't seem to get that SO2 odor our of my freshater tank on a 1981 hunter. Tried flushing several times, using recommended water conditioner. Suggestions ?

There is a safe level of chlorine one can use to sweeten the water system. I don't recall the exact solution but I bet an on-line search will provide a safe chlorine dilution based on tank size.

In my RV it is a springtime ritual after de-winterizing to flush a heavy chlorine solution through the lines. This is a situation where I do not use the tank, so I am not too worried about too much chlorine, as it is quickly removed from the lines after sitting for an hour or so....

That does it for me in the RV, basically just once a year.

If I was using the fresh water tank I would likely add a tiny amount of chlorine to every tank, based on research I recommend above.

He'll never find anything spelling my name that way.

Better yet, search for "Fresh water maintenance" or "Recommission Fresh water system."

We had a similar issue which was caused by old funky (really funky) water in an unused hot water tank. Yuck. Because of how we use our boat, I chose to pull the entire hot water tank out and cap off all the hot water lines. Now, although we don't drink the water in the tank, it smells just like it's supposed to. We do add 1 tsp of chlorine to each 5 gal of water (which is the correct amount according to various sources).
