Going to lay boat up for 6 months. Should fresh water tanks be left full or empty? Is there a chemical solution to put into the water to keep water clean? Do not like using the bleach method of cleaning tanks. We hold about 200 gallons of fresh water when full.

that's a tough one ...i think water is very expensive down there correct....if that s the case i would break my rule and add some bleach to the water ...maybe 1/2 gallon to 200 gallons and keep the water safe .....if you leave the tank empty for 6 months you will have to recommission it ...with a full tank and some bleach stored there will be one less filling on recommission....

WOW, thats a LOT of bleach

You can leave it empty or full, it wouldn't make a difference as you are going to have to recommission regardless.

Red Cross says 8 drops of bleach per gallon. Thats about 2.5 table spoons per 50 gals.

Yes. We do it to treat lake water on wilderness camping trips. It will not kill Girirdia(sp), but most everything else.

I ad a bit to the tanks in the summer to keep them fresh, and prevent algae(sp) from starting to grow. If you put more than about 12 dropes per gal you can start to smell and taste the bleach.
