Fresh Water Tank

1983 Hunter 31.
Just purchased a 83 Hunter 31.
The fresh water tank leaks at the top and around all the screws on the top, when the water tank is full, and the aft berth area gets wet.

As you can see from the pictures some one has been putting tons of silicon around all the screws.

Anyone who has repaired a water tank with new seals successful and give me advice on the correct parts and how to do it would be appreciated.

Dave: We had or tank lid glassed in and that was the end of the problem. We added two inspection ports (one on each side of the baffle) and that corrected the problem.

The only other fix would be to glass in the existing holes and redrill them. I fought the problem for a couple of years and then just gave in.

Check the owner’s modifications for our model on this site there is a very good article on how to clean and reseal the tank.

There’s ton’s of info here and I am thankful to all for their postings!
