Have checked archives on fresh water leaks and all appeared engine area related - hot water,
shower pan, etc. but nothing on tank under v berth. Refilled tank and just to be sure checked
bilge. There was "considerable" 3" inches? in paddle wheel section, overflow to second
bilge area 2" and no question came from under v berth. Before figured out block and tackle
to lift real comfy 500 lb mattress to inspect has anyone else had this problem? Are fill and exit
hoses visible so could tighten or replace? Boat 100 miles away so would like to be
prepared before start project? Pressure water pumps works great. Pumps when needed
and stops when it should. No intermittent pumping. Thanks for any guesses.

Hi; If the water tank is overfilled, water will leak out around the O-ring on the large plastic cap on top of the tank and run down into the bilge. I discarded the O-ring and fabricated a large rubber washer that fits on to the plastic cap. So far, I don't get any fresh water into the bilge when I fill the water tank.

I get a little water every time the admiral fills the fresh water tank. There is some leakage around the connector on the tank and perhaps some at the fill connector. After we have used a gallon or two of water then the forward bilge dries out. FWIW, I did have the backing boards for my depth sounder and speed paddle rot out and replaced them when the bedding on one went, but that should be pretty obvious if it is them. There really is nothing else it could be unless your hull is failing with a crack in it :yikes: but it sounds like that is unlikely.

Have you got any pictures of the washer? I'd love to get rid of that "leak".

It leaked around the cap because the rubber o-ring that's supposed to be on the cap to seal it had been removed or got so old it was all dried out. Beckson has the o-rings in all sizes, at least for round caps. If yours was square or rectangular, you may not have had any choice but to make a gasket. It should be about 1/8" thick, btw, to get a good seal.
