Fresh water tank overflowing

When filling our fresh water tank for the first time this year, the tank overflowed inside the boat. When filling the tank, we were watching the overflow (outside the hull)to tell us when the tank was full. Unfortunately the overflow never spilled. Water overflowed inside the boat. Water was seeping out of the tank screwed cap (large cap on the tank) and seem to also flow out of the seems of the tank itself. The tank is located in the bow of the boat under the v-berth. We never had a problem last year. Any thoughts?

It doesn't say what model and year your boat is, but I'll take a wild guess Beneteau? I had the same problems on my 94, 352. The problem is they do a real lousy job at the factory sealing the lids with the bodies on the older models. the worst is the water tank under the frig that runs almost all the way aft on the 2 cabin models. They just used silicone sealant and not to much of the stuff so it blows out and you fill up your boat with water. Forward tanks are a piece of cake, unscrew the lids clean them up, can let you clean the inside portion and then re seal with 5200, and don't be shy on how much you use. You need to say the year, make and model.
