1995 Oceanis 281 When filling our fresh water tank for the first time this year, the tank overflowed inside the boat. When filling the tank, we were watching the overflow (outside the hull)to tell us when the tank was full. Unfortunately the overflow never spilled. Water overflowed inside the boat. Water was seeping out of the tank screwed cap (large cap on the tank) and seem to also flow out of the seems of the tank itself. The tank is located in the bow of the boat under the v-berth. We never had a problem last year. Any thoughts?

Tank check

Check to see if your tank vent is plugged. (Side of boat, small chrome plated fitting.) Next You can remove the tank after disconnectiong all the hoses. Then plug the discharge and vent, and blow air into the tank with a shop vac. Use a soap solution to check all fittings and seams. If it passed that test time to check the hoses & connections. Sounds like a plugged vent though!

Leaking Bene Tanks

Michel, I am anal about keeping the bilge on my boat totally dry. The large plastic caps on the tops of the Beneteau polystyrene water tanks are prone to leakage. I just gave my three tanks their annual Javexing. Amazing what grunge accumulates in them. When replacing the black or red plastic cap I run a bead of silicone around the inside of the cap not on the thread but where the top edge of the tank opening meets the cap. I then take a hammer and a piece of 2x4 and gently tap the cap well closed. I then fill the tank to overflowing and check the cap for leaks. Since doing this, I have not had a single leak through the top of the tank. Hope this helps....... Pete
