the boat is new to me and hasnt been used in 5 years............ the tank water level sensors are abit wonkey..............the tanks are full and the gauge reads half and if the tank is empty the gauges read full...........

I have included a picture of the sensor and I have a replacement cost of $120.00 each.............but I dont even know if the sensor has failed or is it the gauge...........

how can I check the sensor..........or clean it or calibrate it or...........

thanks

See This

It looks like a WEMA gauge.
If so, inside the stem are 8 latching reed switches each bridging a 22 ohm resistor.
Please see me drawing attached - dated 2005.
Inside the float are two magnets. As the float moves up and down on the surface of the water these magnets either open or close these switches sequentially. Thus the total resistance changes from zero to 176 ohms.

All it is necessary to do is to use a meter to measure the resistance between the two wires and check its max and minimum values.
BTW my float wore through its waterproofing and the magnets went rusty so it didn't slide very well until I cleaned it up. From memory, 7 years ago, I cut the float in two, cleaned and sealed the magnet and glued it back together.

Good luck with yours.
