My fresh water pump (Jabsco 3.0) just started energizing for a second
or so every 3 to 4 minutes. I checked all the fittings and they are dry. Does it mean the pump is going?

Not sure when you say "checked the fittings"

exactly what that means. What you describe sounds like the system repressurizing. A tiny drip in one faucet or shower can do it (my swim platform shower has been the culprit more than once) so be sure you cover every possible place it could drip. Then start checking every plumbing connection you can see.

any fitting can be leaking. There is always the possibility that the piping has a crack too. You just need to check all the fittings first and then go from there.

There is also a chance that your pump has failed. You can get a rebuild kit or send it to Jabsco and they will check it out and repair it if it is worth repairing.

The pressure switch...

started failing on my last pump (a FloJet unit), causing the same symptom. Replaced it and went two more seasons until it started again.

Have replaced the pump with a Jabsco Max4 and am very happy. Will hold pressure for over a week when away from the boat!

Pump valve drain back

My pump does this every year. I use chlorine in my fresh water and it makes granules in the pump valve body. The valve starts to back drain and activates the pump. Takes about 15 minutes to fix once the pump is removed.
BTW, don't be afraid to take the pump apart. They are pretty simple

If the pressure switch is going bad it will do this, but it will also sometimes do it if your battery voltage is on the low side. Pump barely acheives enough pressure to shut off switch, but has no "bump" as it gets there so something as simple as boat moving in a wake or wave will trip it back to the run side for a brief moment. When batteries are good and fresh it doesn't happen--kind of the difference between barely closing a door or slaming it--the switch works best when it gets some slam. If it sounds like the motor slows down appreciably a few moments before it cuts off, rather than running normal right up tiil the stoppage, this might be you problem. Of course, the others are right about ANY small leak ANYWHERE is more likely.
