I've got a Shurflo pump that I installed last year. Worked fine last year. On commissioning the boat this year, the pump runs continuously and will not automatically turn off.

I haven't found any plumbing leaks, the in-line strainer before the pump is clean .. I've tried running with the fill cap off the water tank, I get plenty of pressure at all faucets ....

Does anyone have any hints for what else to check or some diagnostic tips??

Thanks!

Shurflo makes many pumps. Which one did you get? Your symptoms usually relate to the pressure switch inside the pump. Check the troubleshooting guide in the manual that came with the pump.

My pump wont shut off when I have air in the lines and that includes the hot water heater.....you might try releasing the pressure relief lever to remove any air

You 'may' have a large bubble of air trapped somewhere in the system that is compressing and not allowing sufficient system pressure to build up to where the pump internal switch will shut off the pump.
The 'usual' and largest suspect is a hot water heater ..... did you open the 'PRV' (pressure relief valve) to bleed the air when you filled the system this spring?

Start the pump, and then open the PRV to let all the air out while that system 'leg' fills until there is a SOLID stream of water coming out.
Then do the same with all the l o n g runs of water hose/tube: cockpit shower lines, head shower lines, 'accumulators', etc. .... until you bleed ALL the air out of the system.

99% of the time when a water pump doesnt 'shut off' there is a large 'bubble' of air entrapped somewhere in the system.

re: fresh water pump not turning off ... DUH!

so I bled the prv on the hot water heater, tightened all connections ... bled all faucets and the transom shower ... still no dice ...

So I start disassembling the pump ... and realize the screw in the center of the top of the pump is a PRESSURE REGULATOR ADJUSTMENT SCREW! .... so I gently reassemble the pump and adjust the screw ... VOILA!

Moral of the story ... read the manual ... know your equipment ... sometimes its the easy things

Thanks to all for all the responses !
