Fresh Water Pump Chatter

I put a new Jabsco 2.8 GPM house water pump on my plumbing system (H34 1985) and it "chatters", mostly when I run the hot water. Almost like a machine gun. When the kitchen sink hot water spigot is turned on the vanity faucet makes a lot of noise. I thought it was quieter last year with the old one. Any ideas? I put a new 6 gal hot water heater on this year too. Does it maybe have to be bled? Thanks - John

Accumulator

I assume that this pump is a capacity upgrade from stock (not sure what mine is). My guess is that the new hot water heater is a non issue. You probably have the system well bled, and there is no air in the system to dampen that nasty vibration. If it really bothers you, upgrade the system further with an accumualtor. Check out West Marine, they are available from several sources.

Diaphragm pumps "chatter"...

It's the sound of the diaphragm pulsing. Some are noisier than others. You can reduce the noise considerably by mounting it on a couple of strips of thick foam rubber. You can reduce the number of times it has to run by adding an accumulator tank.
