I just attempted to clean the screen in my fresh water filter that is connected to the line at the water pump. Of course water came pouring out, even though the water pump was off. The water pressure is from gravity flow, since my tanks are pretty full. I searched everwhere for a valve, and cannot find one anywhere. Must one drain the water tank to change the filter or work on the water pump? Seems pretty cumbersome to me....

Has it occurred to you to...

Drain the tank first? There'll still be a few gallons left in it, but if you stick a pan under the drain, you won't even have a wet bilge. Or...The water line coming out of your tank is 1.2" ID. If you disconnect the filter from the hose, Buy a 1/2" cork and stick it in the hose as soon as you disconnect it from the filter. Or, stick your finger in the drain while somebody else cleans the filter for you. Surely you could have figured at least ONE of these out for yourself?

Are You Sure?

Are you sure the water pump is lower than the tank? Have periodically cleaned the filter on my 30T (1991) and it has never been a problem. I put several large towels under the pump and this soaks up most of the water so very little reaches the bilge. Estimate I get only about a quart of water before flow stops. My pump is located on starboard side under dinet seat and just above hot water tank. If this is also your location I don't understand why you should be having a problem.
