where can i find a schematic of the fresh water holding tank, every week I empty about 5 gallons of water from the bow well. I don't know exactly where it is, or if it is even the fresh water tank that is leaking

re: mystery tank leak

Sounds like some hose is either broken or disconnected. What is the water you empty? --fresh? --sea? --rain? --gray? --pee? Does it smell? What are the possible ways any water could get in there? It may not even be from a tank at all.

Mind that a 'holding tank' is for gray and black water (sink and toilet output), not 'fresh water'. A 'fresh water tank' is for potable (drinking) water.

Start with the first question:
1. Determine which tank is leaking. Using a bit of food dye (NOT red!) might help with identification.
2. Determine the cause of the leak.
3. Determine how to fix it; and fix it.

The 'schematics' for a fresh-water supply tank and a black-water holding tank vary significantly. We need to know which you have before we can answer adequately.

Generally water found in the storage area under the V berth is from one of two sources. The first could be from a fresh water tank most likely the hose connection or could be the tank has ruptured.

However, 90% of the time could be the water fill/inlet caulking has broken loose or the hose from the fill to the tank. It could also be any fittings in that are for example a loose cleat or anchor well lid. Check these too.

5gal a week is a good reason to figure it out. Another thought is if there is an anchor well in the bow it might be from a cracked drain hose leaking rainwater or from rinsing the boat. A few well placed paper towels and a good hose down might give you a clue if it is.
