Fresh water filter assembly replacement

Our fresh water filter assembly is original (1985) and is a pain in the butt to clean and work with. PO had a new Racor filter that accommodates 150 LBS max (I always thought that water flow was measured in gallons per hour or minute, or something like that??). Anyone know what the water flow requirement is for the M25 Universal engine? And is 150 LBS max adequate? Thanks!

150 lbs. is pressure, Flow is measured in GPH or GPM, two different properties of liquids, in general more flow at 100 lbs. than at 10 lbs. By "freshwater filter" you mean the raw water strainer where cooling water for the engine is drawn from whatever you are floating in ? If so, 150 lbs is adequate, flow is not much, less than 10 gpm, it's a little pump and 5/8 inch hose. And I'm not familiar with any water strainers made by Racor their fuel filters are more common.

Thanks Ted! Unfortunately, there is no model number on this filter, so not much to go on to get specs. Yes, this is a raw water strainer from the seacock to the water pump. Also my hoses are 1/2". Thanks!

Yup, the RACOR is most likely a fuel filter (?) which is why it has a pressure rating; one of those items that previous owner meant to get to ..The raw water strainer would normally have less than 1 pound of pressure inside..
A picture would help us to continue to speculate !

Since the early 90's the strainer used by Catalina is a plastic housing with a stainless screen, I'm not sure who the manufacturer is. It is on the suction side of the pump so it is only subjected to atmospheric pressure (1/2 lb per ft. below water level) or less, no pressure really. Some people prefer to stick with stouter designs using metal housings, I've never had to replace one of these plastic ones.
