Not too crazy about the bladder under my sink that has a fitting leak. Looks like manufacture sealant that has come loose. Has anybody found something better.

My solution was to go to Academy Sporting Goods and buy two, blue 2.5 gallon water jugs. One of these will just fit through the opening under the flip up counter in the 23.5 galley area. These come with a screw in tap in the lid.

I then went to Lowes where I bought a brass male garden hose fitting with the usual male nipple which fits inside a hose. I unscrewed the tap from the water jug lid and epoxied in the male hose fitting. I attached plastic hose to the the protruding nipple and reattached the jug lid, now with male hose fitting on the top and plastic intake hose on the bottom, to the jug.

I mounted a female garden hose connection to the hose going to the sink pump, and then screwed together the male and female garden hose hose connectors. It worked perfectly. I bought a female cap which fits the male hose fitting so I don't spill water when getting a full jug into the space under the sink.

I installed two eye fittings to the inside of the galley molding, on either side of the water jug and use a shock cord hooked to the eyes and around the jug to keep the jug in place when heeled on starboard tack.

For my short over night trips I find 2.5 gallons over water is plenty and I carry a the spare jug just in case. I did not modify the lid on the second jug, I just swap lids when changing tanks.

This was a simple solution to the water bag, with the benefit the jugs are easy to take home to clean at season's end

Kind regards

Hugh

It has abeen some time but did the 26 not the 260 come with a dedicated water tank of it's own vs. the 23.5 style?

I was asking that question for the 26 as the 260 is different. I am the one who suggested the 20 gallon tank be standard for the 260, Cannot remember if the 26 hasd the same tank. With the passage of time, I am afflicted with CRS and CRAFT.

Dave
Mine has a bladder that seems brittle and has a fitting leak.
I like the idea of a tank under v-birth. Easy to run hose through forward
hatch to fill.

A pair of 30 gallon bladders work well in the space under the v berth, add a diaphram pump and life is good.

It has been some time since being on a 26. On the 260 one of the changes was a permanent 20 gallon tank vs. the bladder style as previously mentioned standard on the 26. Thank you DFISHER for confirming this to me. I have seen those bladders at camping stores in the past.

As for a permanent style tank up forward, there are several issues. First you cannot disturb the integrity of the ballast tank lid by screwing holes into it. You could glass in some form of table top inside the storage forward locker area and insert a plastic container but would not suggest cutting the inspection locker lid any to put in a 20 gallon tank. The idea of a collapsible like dewhunter suggested is the way I would go but would only opt for one not two 30 gallon tanks.

Dewhunter, thanks for the photos.

Dave, I spend 6 weeks at a time out in the pacific north-west between Vancouver Island and the mainland, mostly in the desolation sound area. This mandated major modifications to the h26, extra water, feul, batteries, solar, refrigeration etc. The extra equipment makes me heavy but the boat sits nicer in the water and has not lost speed or performance. In fact it punch's through waves without any bounce or banging.

Now I understand the two bladders. Beautiful area. Was there two years ago and enjoyed hiking around the Pemberton area north of Whistler.

Dewhunter.... What is the support shown in your picture? Is this just to separate the locker? Are the bladder tanks connected or do you switch between them?

The support is just that, it holds up the center of the bottom platform on witch the 110L freezer is set. The sides are enclosed giving storage compartments on the port and starboard sides as well. This is all under the vberth in that big emty space. I don't have really good pic's of the job, I'll take some the next time I'm out at the boat. The bladder tank came from WM and has a common fill located on the bow deck behind the gib furler with tee'd common connection to pump. The water tends to self balance so I have never had a list even after an 8 hr sail.

Very nice interior; the cushions, curtains and especially the table (and the cute board cat).

Re: Bladder pic's

Real low tech, all I used was plastic coated stainless clothsline with wire eyelet terminals crimped on the ends and screwed into the liner. The center spacing and support is small cup hooks bent closed. The draw curtains are on a track that you can find at a RV parts supplier. The table is a 30x60 oval that I got cheep from sears, now I can sit square to the table to eat not sideways like with the original one.

Dewhunter - I have to see more of your mods. You have a beautiful boat. I just bought a 94 H26, and would be interested to see what else you've done to yours. Do you have an archive to check out?
