In January we visited the Beneteau exhibit at the Toronto boat show. As we revisited the collected literature, we noticed a pricing sheet for the new Beneteau 46 from a Toronto dealer that was quoting prices for a US made boat and for a boat made in France. Is there a difference worth considering as the French made boat is 10% more expensive? Could this difference only represent the shipping cost from Europe ? Shoping for new Crystaldan

Electronics may be different

If the French boat is intended for the domestic market, it may be set up for 220v instead of 110v, have Euro style a.c. sockets and may lack documentation in English. The shipping will be more expensive for sure. I am not aware of any quality differences.

price and show deals

What price range for the base 46 and what about boat show specials? I am a Beneteau customer with a 2005 323 and I am considering tht new 46 or 49 and in my dealings I have not heard of building in France if they have the capabilities in So. Carolina. Historically, folks will order from France only if the model is not made in Marion. I know the 46 and 49 are coming out of Marion now and about 5-6 months out if you order now. Greg

build

I have a Marion-built Bene and am not really all that impressed with the build quality. I seriously don't think it's any better than Catalina. But, a couple of years ago, there was a middle '80s French-built Bene on my dock, and that boat was built like a battleship! The fit and finish was great, the fittings were enormous, the standing rig was oversized and bullet proof. The teak deck was meticulouslly put down, the ports were stainless and hatches were all recessed into the deck. It didn't, however, have very good engine access. My 2 cents.
