Foul bawl

Yesterday I stupidly got a 5/8-inch spinnaker sheet fouled in the drive shaft (but not the prop). A hardy boyfriend of my daughter's dived below and got it untangled. Even though it was mangled it's still in one piece. My question is whether shards of the line are embedded in the housing, which would cause me to pull the boat to drop the shaft. Eh?

Not sure...

...I understand the question?? either line is wrapped or it isn't. what housing are you refering to? anyway, if line is still hung up, then it seems to me the thing to do is take a sharp knife and cut it all off. Years ago I had a length of 3 strand wrapped on my prop shaft. It took a couple of minutes and a sharp knife to fix.

The line is no longer wrapped, but I'm concerned chunks of it may be imbedded in the cutlass bearing.

Bill, relax.

If it came off in one piece, you're fine. A good way to check is to turn the shaft by hand from behind the transmission. It should feel the same as before the tangle. You do know how that feels, right?
