Forward water tank vent

After over filling the forward water tank I had alot of water trapped in comparments under the forward head and under the floor of the forward state room. The only thing I can think of is that the vent hose vents into the bilge. On this boat I have no bilge drains forward of the forward state room. The last time I filled the tank I sqeezed off the vent line. When the tank was full I did have water ascape out the vents of the stern. Does anyone know how the forward tank vents or supposed to vent. I have looked in the access cover where the vent line is located. The hose goes forward and disapears

tank vent

I don't know where your vent ends up, but I wouldn't be suprised if you're right about the vent leading to the bilge (BTW: maybe the hose is broken or split somewhere down there)! Our M28 had NOTHING other than a 1/2" vent plug on the top of the tank (under the V-berth). I can only imagine what a mess that'd make! Anyway, not wanting to find out, I installed an elbow, and ran a 1/2" line along the top of the tank, through the starboard locker, and out thru a vent elbow on the side. Looking over other boats at our marina, it seems that this is the most common setup these days. Another puzzle to ponder: the M28 has a little shower pan built into the floor of the head. The drain goes... NOWHERE! I suppose this "grey water" was meant to drain right into the bilge. I guess this was the way they did things back in the day... Jim s/v: The Merry Bee

found hose

I found the end of the vent hose in the anchore line locker. I found it by accident. I was doing routine clening and found the end of the hose. After taking all the line out I noticed dirt filling the bottom of the locker pluging the drain.

shower drain

I don't think it is uncommon for the shower to drain into the bilge. If your like me I like to keep my bilge as dry as I can. My boat has shower pumps that drain the water into the cockpit drain whick drains overboard. Not hard to install. Glenn
