My experience...
Hey, I don't think that much tension is a good idea. When I bought my boat new, I put roller furling on it. In attempts to get the jib luff as straight a possible, I over tightened the the forward stay and it caved the cabin top in, made a dip in the cabin top that hunter was surprised to find out about. They repaired by adding a spacer between the compression post and the top of the interior cabin top. This gave it back its proper shape, but I was warned by the rigger that this boat was not meant to be put under that type of presure. I also noticed that when I over tighten the strouds, upper, lower whatever, it caused the boat to change interior spacing between doors and bulkheads making them where they would not close. If you want to put bend in your mast, I believe the backstay would be the proper place for tension, but do not over do it. You might want to address question to Hunter, they are good about giving owners information.Good luck, loosen and maybe no damage has been done.David Underwood, 1982 Hunter 33 (original owner of "Freebird" now for 19 years)
