Any idea where I can get a replacement hatch for a 1978 Hunter 27? It looks like it isn't quite square (more narrow in front than back). Is it made by Gray Industries like the portlights are?

Chuck Fort (I think) did a piece on his boat. There is a picture with the Bomar hatch number right on it. I did it myself last year. I takes a while to get the hatch from Bomar. Randy

I had the same problem. The trapizoid hatch finally gave out needed to be put to rest. I replaced it with a Bomar hatch. Needed to square out the opening(turned the trapoizshape to a square)with a saber saw. Used Bondo to fill the edges and painted the inside edges white rustooleum paint. I used caulk to make a nice bead in the inside corners. I think I used 5200 on the outside flange of the new hatch but don't remember. I also used screws on the flange in the predrilled holes. Looks just like the pictures in the other post. Not to difficult. Came out great and took about a day. Have fun.

OK, now I'm confused. David says it's pretty much a drop in and others are saying you have to grind 1/8 on the side and 1/4 on the rear.... (or something like that)? Can there be that much differance between 1974-1984 Hunter 27's?

just curious why would you have to replace a hatch? Can't they be rebuilt pretty easy? Are they the same as a H30 1978? Sailors Exchange in St Augustine has hatchs that look like the ones on mine..

The boat is old (1978) and the plastic frame is beginning to crack. also, the bracket that holds on of the dogs has cracked and been repaired with epoxy and the port side support (that holds it up) is missing.
