I have a 1987 Hunter 26.5 and would like to replace the forward hatch with a plexiglass model; the current hatch is solid fiberglass and does not allow light into the front berth. Does anyone make off-the-shelf replacements or will I have to have one specially made? Any advice would be appreciated.

Send it back to mfg.

Dorian: Just pull the hatch off (remove the hinges) and send it to the mfg. They can replace the plastic for you and save a LOT of money. Don't know that it is really going to make that much difference. It is also going to expose your upolstery to more fading.

Get a hatch shade

Not in a effort to push the products of a VERY good website, but you will need a hatch shade if you go with a clear hatch or you will replace a lot of things inside your boat very quickly. You can buy hatch shades on this website at the attached link. They seem to be pretty competitive with others on the web. I bought two last week.

Hatch Screen/Shade Combo

Check out the Oceanair Universal Skyscreen products. I got one for the forward hatch and one for the cabin hatch three years go. You can pull one way for total shade, pull the other way for a screen, do half and half, or choose neither! Marintime Supply LLC Maritime@connix.com 860.767.0468

Michael Oh!

Michael: With the Universal Sky Screen in place, can you have the screen closed when the hatch is completely closed too? The reason I am asking is because the handles for the hatch hang down below the ceiling.
