Forward Hatch gasket sealant

We have obtained a new gasket for the forward hatch in our '82 Catalina 38 from Catalina Direct. Our gasket track is in the cabin/deck, not on the hatch.I was able to remove the old gasket completely. What should we use as a sealant or caulk when installing this new gasket?Thanks in advance - can't wait to get this boat sailing.Judy Kilroy

Judy,I replaced the gasket on my boat about a year ago. I used marine grade silicon sealant. The gasket has stayed in place and is water-tight. I believe the original was installed with contact cement. BTW, how did you make out with the water tank vent and shower sump?Rodney KiddC-38 #297, Flying Bear

Hi Judy, I second what Rodney said, you will want to replace it again someday and be able to get the old stuff off..I also want to hear how your other projects went?? Mike C-38 # 169
