I need to replace the forward hatch on my S2 8.6 meter. As you know the hatch is an unusual configuration and standard hatches wont fit. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Maybe from a custom shop?

i am replaceing mine with a bomar cast aluminum hatch .....the clear opening on my hatch is 19.5 inches and the bomar fit it perfectly...as for the out side flange it fit the deck surface perfectly as well ....i scored it of a morgan motor sailor from a slavage yard in texas i am haveing it anodized black and putting a new lens in as well...you can bed it with mainesails bedding compound tape...if you are concerned about the 2 groves for the gaskets of the original ...just fill them with thickened resin and fair smooth...fasten it down with the proper ss screws....if you woud rather replace it with the same as it came from factory ....contact AIN plastics in Georgia and have them make you a new one using your old one for a pattern or send them a drawing ...they may have a drop in stock they can make it out of......hope this helps

Cool Woody. I can't wait to see how it looks.

If the hatch on the 8.6 is just a slab of plastic just have one made if it is an odd size. There is a place in CT that can do it for you. www.selectplastics.com

Bob.....that is some very good info on the site (select plastics) about the sealants and cleaning.....

i found this hatch in Texas on a Morgan motor sailer for 1/2 a boat unit ($50.00).... lol ...took me the better part of and hour to cut it out with a battery powered roto zip tool.....but well worth it as the hatch is about 9 boat units:eek:...it is cast aluminum and very strong....i am glad to make the change as it doesnt effect the astetics of the deck ...only improveing it...i cleaned it up in my glass bead blaster and am haveing it anodize along with the biannical.. 5 small deck clets.. and the companion way slide railes & and the travler track and shim rail on the stern.. along with the mast step..will be about 1 and 1/2 boat units for all that work...and when all is said and done will be very low maintance......

Saw your post regarding your forward hatch and just joined the forum. I replaces the hatch on my S2 8.6 by taking it to a plexiglass shop in town. They reproduced an exact copy, complete with drillings. I replaced the wood sticks (ugly) with noslip tape. It looks/works great. Smoked plexiglass was twice the cost of clear so I went with clear.
