I am a new H23 owner. Just had a rigger install a CDI FF2 furler and the foresstay appears quite slack. Still awaiting modification of the foresail and rigger to return. The rigger told me that tha forestay tension can be adjusted with the backstay adjuster. Shouldn't the forestay turnbuckle be accessible for adjustment? Thanks Alex

We're doing the same thing

Alex, My stuff is all being changed right now too. From what I have read (check archives) There is a 12 in. link plate that needs to be added to the end of the existing forestay to move the drum ontop of the deck. The forestay needs to be shortened accordingly. Also, the FF2 furler installation needs to be shortened for the new drum. There is an exact measure required here. In the end the overall length (pin-pin) should not have changed from the original hardware to the new setup. I won't have all my stuff here until the end of the month. So I cannot check meqsurements until then. My first thought is that only very minor adjustment on the backstay might be required - but having everything set up right on the forestay to match correct pin-pin length is what I would ensure first. With my mod - the rigger will be leaving the turnbuckle in place. Was the original length measured before making the modification? How much slack do have? What end was reswaged - the top or bottom? Checking the archives and emailing CDI for support might be reasonable. Let me know how you make out. I'm interested because I'm trying to anticipate any problems we might run into with our mod. Good luck. Rob

Rob is correct

You have to shorten the forestay by the same about the roller furler lengthens it. I would have question the familiarity your installer has with a roller furler if he thinks you can just take up the slack with the backstay. That would dramatically change the rake of your mast. Does this person sail?
