Forestay tension/Mast positioning question

In tuning my rig, my forestay (headsail furler) seems too loose..I've tightened it at the pulpit all I can. I have a Seldon mast on my Hunter 310 and it appears that the position of the mast is adjustable forward/aft several inches...by removing a large pin at the base of the mast and potentially "sliding" the mast. Three questions: 1. Can the mast be slid aft without a crane to lift it? 2. Would sliding it back help solve my forestay tension issue? 3. Does moving the mast back weaken the "tripod" of the B&G rig? No backstay... If anyone has experience with this, please let me know. Thanks

Never adjust your forstay?

Set your rake and leave it. Any tension on it should be provided by the shrouds.
